Velenje Conference

It is February 28, 2023 in Velenje. a media conference was held where the results of the project were presented Velenje Media Conference

On February 27 and 28, 2023, a conference on accessibility and use of digital technologies for people with intellectual disabilities was held in the Savinjska region in Slovenia, in which representatives of the Center for Inclusion and Community Support participated. The Croatian Association of Associations of People with Intellectual Disabilities and the Slovenian IPAK Institute for Symbolic Analysis and Development of Information Technologies from Velenje, partner organizations of the IDEAL - Improvement of Digital Skills of People with Intellectual Disabilities project, within which this Conference was organized.

The first day of the Conference was held in Nazarje, and was divided into two working parts. First, a round table was held where the participants reviewed the created educational materials and the web platform of the project on the page edu.centar-podrske.eu/hr and discussed in detail their applicability in working with people with intellectual disabilities, i.e. their users. The need for an individualized approach in teaching people with intellectual disabilities to use modern digital technologies was highlighted, as well as the fact that, although they are necessary, applicable programs for this user group currently do not exist. Namely, all formal and informal forms of education in this area do not respect the specifics in the approach and methodology of teaching people with intellectual disabilities and are therefore unsuitable for members of this population and they are not included in them. Therefore, if we want people with intellectual disabilities to master digital skills, we must know them well and understand their difficulties with which they encounter in the learning process. We must be empathetic and respect the principle that we are all different and accordingly prepare an individual program for each student. It is best, therefore, for the teaching process to be "one-on-one" in which the teacher gets to know the student well, and his contribution to the success of learning will then be greater.
